American Legion Gaming Privacy Policy
American Legion Gaming, Department of California (“ALG,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects the privacy of veterans, service members, members of The American Legion Family, volunteers, applicants, and other individuals who use our websites, Discord community, membership and verification systems, and related services.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it may be used and shared, and the choices available to you.
This Privacy Policy applies to algvets.org, including the membership application at algvets.org/join, ALG verification systems, ALG-operated Discord integrations, and other ALG services that link to this Policy.

- Mailing address
- City, state or province, ZIP or postal code, and country
- Date of birth
- Gender, when requested
- Messages or other information you choose to submit

B. American Legion Membership Applications
ALG provides an online process through which eligible individuals may apply for membership in The American Legion.
The current membership application may collect information including:
- Full name
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Mailing address
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Recruiter’s name, when applicable
- Military branch
- War era or qualifying service period
- Certification concerning qualifying military service
- DD214 or other military-service documentation
- Membership-related information
- Payment and transaction information
- Messages or information voluntarily provided with the application
The current application requires applicants to certify qualifying military service and may require a DD214 or other documentation supporting eligibility. Applicants are instructed to redact sensitive information such as Social Security numbers before uploading documents. American Legion Gaming
Submission of an application and payment of dues do not necessarily guarantee acceptance into The American Legion. Membership applications may be subject to eligibility verification and applicable membership procedures. American Legion Gaming
C. Military-Service Documents
For American Legion membership purposes, ALG may collect documents used to establish qualifying military service.
These may include:
- DD Form 214
- Military discharge documents
- Active-duty or service documentation
- Other appropriate proof of qualifying military service
Military documents can contain sensitive personal information. Applicants should redact information that is not necessary to determine eligibility, including:
- Social Security numbers
- Financial account information
- Medical information not relevant to eligibility
- Other sensitive identifiers not needed for membership verification
Military-service documentation submitted to ALG is used for membership eligibility review, related administration, recordkeeping, security, and other legitimate organizational purposes.
Users should submit military records only through an ALG-designated membership or verification process.
D. GOVX Military Verification
ALG may offer a separate military-verification process through GOVX.
GOVX verification is different from the American Legion membership application process described above.
When you choose GOVX verification, the underlying documents or evidence used by GOVX to establish your status are provided to GOVX and processed by GOVX under its own policies and procedures.
ALG may receive information from GOVX necessary to determine eligibility for ALG services and benefits, which may include:
- Whether verification was approved, pending, unsuccessful, or otherwise incomplete
- A GOVX or provider-specific user identifier
- Verified military affiliation or eligibility category
- Verification date or related timestamps
- Other limited information authorized by you and necessary for the verification process
ALG does not need to receive your DD214 or other military-service documents from GOVX in order to use a GOVX verification result.
Information or documents that you separately submit directly to ALG for American Legion membership are governed by the membership provisions of this Privacy Policy.
E. American Legion Membership Verification
Military-service verification and American Legion membership verification are separate determinations.
When verifying existing American Legion membership, ALG may collect or maintain information such as:
- Name
- Membership number
- Post affiliation
- Department affiliation
- Membership status or membership year
- Verification status
- Date of verification
- Reviewer information
- Administrative notes reasonably necessary to document the verification
A successful military verification through GOVX does not by itself establish that someone is a member of The American Legion.
F. Discord Information
ALG operates an online community through Discord and may use Discord bots and integrations to manage verification, access, roles, benefits, and community features.
Depending on the feature used, we may process information including:
- Discord user ID
- Discord username
- Discord display name
- Server membership
- Discord roles
- Verification status
- The source of a verification
- Verification timestamps
- Role-assignment status
- Benefit eligibility
- Benefit redemption or claim status
- Information necessary to detect duplicate accounts, fraud, or misuse
ALG may associate a Discord account with an ALG verification or membership record so that appropriate roles can be assigned.
G. Discord Roles and Eligibility
Depending on the applicable verification process, ALG may use verified information to assign Discord roles.
For example, a qualifying military verification may establish eligibility for roles such as:
- Verified Veteran
- Nitro Eligible
Separate American Legion membership verification may establish eligibility for additional roles, including:
- Verified Legionnaire
- Verified Veteran
- Verified Legion Family
- Nitro Eligible
Role names, eligibility requirements, and benefits may change as ALG programs evolve.
ALG may maintain information regarding which verification process established a particular role or eligibility status.
H. Benefits, Giveaways, and Discord Nitro
ALG may provide benefits to eligible community members, including Discord Nitro, giveaways, memberships, promotional items, event opportunities, or other benefits.
We may collect or maintain information necessary to:
- Determine eligibility
- Track issuance or redemption
- Prevent duplicate claims
- Detect fraud or abuse
- Administer limited-quantity benefits
- Maintain appropriate records
Verification status and benefit redemption status may be maintained separately.
I. Payment Information
ALG’s membership application currently includes payment of American Legion membership dues. American Legion Gaming
When a payment is made, payment information may be processed by a payment processor or other service provider used to complete the transaction.
ALG may maintain information associated with the transaction, such as:
- Payment status
- Amount paid
- Transaction date
- Transaction or receipt identifier
- Membership application associated with the payment
- Refund status, when applicable
Payment-card information is subject to the security and processing practices of the applicable payment provider.
