inFAMOUS Comeback Rumor Gives PlayStation Fans Hope

inFAMOUS

The inFAMOUS series is back in the PlayStation conversation, but fans should be careful about treating the latest rumor as a confirmed comeback.

A recent report claimed a new inFAMOUS project may be in discussion for PlayStation hardware. The report has sparked interest because the franchise has been dormant for years, but Sony has not announced a new game, remake or remaster. Sucker Punch Productions has also not confirmed that an inFAMOUS project is in development.

The biggest confirmed development is not a sequel or remake announcement. It is interest from Sucker Punch leadership. In a 2025 interview with Game Informer, Ghost of Yōtei co-creative director Nate Fox said he would love to work on more inFAMOUS and would also like to see a trilogy rerelease. He also made clear that Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time studio and was focused on finishing Ghost of Yōtei.

That leaves the franchise in an interesting place. There is no confirmed PS5 or PS6 inFAMOUS game, but there is still visible interest around the series from fans and at least some creative interest from inside Sucker Punch. That is enough to make the rumor worth watching, but not enough to call it a revival.

The timing also explains why the rumor gained traction. inFAMOUS Second Son launched on PS4 in 2014, meaning PlayStation has gone more than a decade without a new main entry. The original games built a loyal following by mixing open-world action, superpowers, city traversal and morality-based choices. In an era where superhero games and cinematic open-world titles remain popular, inFAMOUS still feels like a franchise that could fit modern PlayStation hardware.

Sony has several options if it decides to bring the series back. Sony could pursue a full sequel built for PS5 or PS6. It could reboot the series with a new character and city. It could also start with a remaster or remake collection that brings the earlier games to current hardware. A rerelease may be the safest path, because it would reintroduce the franchise before Sony commits to a larger new entry.

There has also been change at Sucker Punch. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that Jason Connell and Adrian Bentley would become Sucker Punch studio heads starting Jan. 1, 2026, while co-founder Brian Fleming steps away after a long run leading the studio. Sony said the new leadership will continue guiding the team’s focus on ambitious, character-driven PlayStation experiences. The announcement did not mention a new inFAMOUS project.

For now, one thing is certain. inFAMOUS has not been officially revived, and there is no confirmed PS5 or PS6 release. The franchise still has fan demand, Sucker Punch has shown interest in returning to it someday, and new rumors have put the series back in the spotlight. Until Sony or Sucker Punch says more, the comeback talk should be treated as hope, not confirmation.
