Video game adaptations once came with low expectations. Now, some of gaming’s biggest franchises are finding new audiences through movies and television, while longtime players are seeing familiar characters, stories, and worlds brought to life in new ways.

That gives American Legion Gaming communities another reason to gather. Movies and shows already available at home can become watch parties at American Legion Posts, followed by tournaments, co-op sessions, trivia, or a themed game night tied to the franchise.

Family-Friendly Movies for Game Night

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is available to buy or rent digitally. An ALG event could begin with a few rounds of Mario Kart World before the movie or end with a friendly tournament after the credits.

Posts could create individual races for Veterans, family members, and younger players before bringing the top finishers together for a final championship round. Mario trivia, costume contests, and themed snacks could also make the event feel like more than a standard movie night.

A Minecraft Movie is streaming on HBO Max. Posts could pair it with a building contest in Minecraft, challenging players to create an American Legion Post, memorial, obstacle course, or military-inspired build.

The movie also has a Block Party Edition built around audience participation. That version may work well for a family event where viewers are encouraged to react, sing, and take part during the movie.

Shows That Can Become a Series of ALG Events

Fallout

Both seasons of Fallout are available on Prime Video. Its mix of dark humor, military organizations, survival, and competing factions could support several watch nights instead of one long marathon.

Each meeting could include one or two episodes, followed by trivia or a discussion about the characters and factions. Players could continue the theme with a group session in Fallout 76, where they can explore, complete missions, and build a shared base.

The Last of Us has two seasons available on HBO Max. The series could lead to conversations about survival, loyalty, difficult leadership decisions, and how people respond when familiar systems collapse.

A Post could follow an episode with a discussion about what choices members would make in the same situation. Players familiar with The Last of Us Part I could also compare the changes made between the game and television series.

Two seasons of Twisted Metal are available on Peacock. Its shorter episodes, dark comedy, and vehicle combat make it easier to build a casual watch party around an arcade or racing game night.

Animated Adaptations Worth Adding to the List

Arcane

Arcane follows several characters from League of Legends, but viewers do not need to know the game to understand the story. Both seasons are available on Netflix, giving ALG groups a complete series that can be watched across several meetings.

The series may also introduce new players to League of Legends. Experienced members could explain the game’s characters and roles before helping first-time players through a beginner match.

Devil May Cry is another Netflix choice for adult animation fans. The series follows demon hunter Dante and could be paired with Devil May Cry 5 or an action-game challenge based on high scores and mission completion times.

Castlevania: Nocturne gives horror and fantasy players another choice. Its vampires, monsters, and historical setting could support a Halloween watch party or a game night centered on classic action and horror titles.

More Adaptations Are Coming Soon

Street Fighter

A new Resident Evil movie reaches theaters Sept. 18, 2026, followed by Street Fighter on Oct. 16.

ALG communities can prepare by revisiting Resident Evil Requiem or holding a tournament in Street Fighter 6. Watch parties can follow once the movies become available for home viewing.

The 2027 schedule includes Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, A Minecraft Movie Squared, and a Helldivers adaptation.

Posts can revisit the Sonic the Hedgehog games, explore The Legend of Zelda series, organize another Minecraft building event, or form four-player squads in Helldivers 2 while waiting for the adaptations.
