The American Legion Department of New Jersey held its first meeting on Oct. 23 at John W. Lupu Memorial Post 306 to discuss forming a gaming committee.
Members from seven counties attended, along with Department Commander Gladden, to hear more about the idea and ask questions about what the program could become.
“It went very well. We had some great questions asked, and everyone who attended seemed to get what the program will be trying to accomplish,” said Michael Smith, current Passaic County Commander and a Past Department Vice Commander. “We have the support of our current Department Commander as well as our leading candidate for next year, so I believe we’ll get our ad hoc committee set up by the time our Department Convention rolls around next June.”
Smith also shared his reaction to the turnout on ALG’s Discord.
“Humbled by the support shown tonight for our first meeting to talk about bringing a gaming committee to The American Legion Department of New Jersey,” he wrote. “Seven different counties across the state were represented tonight.”
He said good questions were asked and answered, while some will be revisited once an ad hoc committee is officially formed.
“Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy lives to attend tonight, and we look forward to meeting again late winter / early spring,” Smith wrote.
He also thanked John W. Lupu Memorial Post 306 “for their help and support and lending us meeting space.”
If the committee moves forward, it could give the Department of New Jersey another way to bring Veterans together through gaming.
