ALG will hold its next Community Friday on Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern, continuing a weekly Discord series that brings Veterans, Service Members, military families, supporters, and gamers together for conversation and gaming.
Hosted by @NEAVAYF and @FLO_CHICKEN, the 60- to 90-minute gathering will include community updates, questions from members, open discussion, and time to play games with others in the ALG Discord.
Community Friday is intended to be an easy way for members to check in, hear what is happening with ALG, and spend time with others who share an interest in gaming and the military community. Participants can ask questions about ALG, membership, Discord features, upcoming activities, Veteran resources, or ways to become more involved.
Members are also encouraged to bring their own ideas to the conversation. Suggestions for future games, events, discussion topics, and other activities can help guide what the community does in the weeks ahead.
The discussion can move beyond gaming as well. Topics may include staying connected after military service, maintaining friendships, transitioning into civilian life, peer support, and other issues that come up within the Veteran and military community. When needed, ALG can point members toward information and resources available through The American Legion, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other organizations that serve Veterans and military families.
There is no set script for every Community Friday, allowing the conversation to follow the interests of the people who join that night. Some members may want to hear about upcoming ALG activities, while others may be looking to meet new people, catch up with familiar voices, or talk about the games they have been playing recently.
Once the discussion winds down, members can move into community gaming and decide what they want to play. Possible choices include Fortnite, Call of Duty, Helldivers 2, Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, Halo Infinite, Minecraft, Fall Guys, and Jackbox Games.
The game itself can change from week to week depending on who joins and what members want to play. Participants do not need to be highly competitive or experienced players, and joining the conversation does not require staying for the gaming portion of the night.
Community Friday also gives newer members a chance to become more familiar with the ALG Discord without having to jump directly into a larger tournament or organized event. A voice chat, a few introductions, and a casual game can make it easier to meet others and find people to play with later.
The next ALG Community Friday begins Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern. Members interested in joining can enter the ALG Discord, join the voice chat, take part in the discussion, and stay for whatever game the community chooses that night.
