American Legion Gaming (ALG) is joining Service Members, Veterans, military families and community members at LA Fleet Week during Memorial Day weekend, bringing its mission of connection, careers and comfort to one of Southern California’s largest military community events.
At its booth, ALG is giving Service Members and the public a place to stop by, play games and learn how gaming can help build community across the military and Veteran space.
LA Fleet Week is taking place May 22 through May 25 at the LA Waterfront in San Pedro, with activities centered around the Battleship Iowa. The event also comes as Los Angeles begins its America 250 celebration ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026.
Why LA Fleet Week Matters for ALG
LA Fleet Week gives ALG a meaningful opportunity to reach Service Members early and introduce them to The American Legion in a modern and familiar way.
Gaming is already part of how many Service Members and Veterans relax, stay in touch and build friendships. ALG uses that common interest to create pathways into support, career resources and long-term connection.
The booth gives visitors a chance to experience that work firsthand. Service Members can meet the ALG team, ask questions and learn how the program continues to support them before, during and after their transition into Veteran life.
A Bridge Between the Military and the Public
Many families attend LA Fleet Week to tour ships, meet Service Members and learn more about the military community. Those in uniform get a chance to step away from daily duties, meet the public and feel support from the community during a meaningful Memorial Day weekend.
The event brings civilians, Veterans, active-duty Service Members and military families together through ship tours, military displays, live entertainment, competitions and community activities across the region.
The setting carries extra meaning. Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor those who gave their lives in service to the nation. Holding the event at the USS Iowa and the Port of Los Angeles gives the public a direct connection to military history, service and sacrifice.
It also gives civilians a rare chance to speak directly with active-duty Service Members. Those conversations help build understanding, appreciation and support between the military and the communities they serve.
Connection That Carries Beyond the Weekend
Events like LA Fleet Week can boost morale by giving Service Members a chance to meet the public outside of their regular duties. ALG’s presence also shows that The American Legion can be a source of connection while Service Members are still serving, not only after they leave the military.
That connection is especially meaningful as the country prepares for America’s 250th birthday. LA Fleet Week gives the public a chance to celebrate service, remember sacrifice and look ahead to the next generation of military and Veteran support.
Through gaming, conversation and community, ALG is using LA Fleet Week to connect with Service Members in a way that feels familiar, welcoming and lasting.
