American Legion Gaming Launches 2,400-Mile “Long Way to LA” Route 66 Veteran Journey to LA Fleet Week
CHICAGO, IL — April 27, 2026
Written by: Wesley Lewison
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of LA Fleet Week, 100th anniversary of Route 66, and 250th birthday of the United States, American Legion Gaming (ALG) is hitting the Mother Road.
From May 9 through May 19, 2026, a convoy of Veteran content creators will take part in “Long Way to LA,” a 10-day, 2,400-mile cross-country expedition starting at Chicago’s Navy Pier and ending at LA Fleet Week. Backed by Cruise America, the team will travel across the country in branded RVs.
Designed to connect traditional Veteran spaces with the modern digital landscape, the journey addresses a serious issue: Veteran isolation. By turning the long stretches of the American highway into opportunities for digital and in-person connection, ALG is working to show that no Veteran has to travel their road alone.
The trip will serve as a tentpole activation for the Route 66 Centennial Commission and a build-up to LA Fleet Week.
“We are partnering with the Route 66 Centennial team to really highlight how beautiful this route is, all leading up to the crown jewel of Los Angeles at its end,” said Jennifer Fligor, lead organizer for the ALG road trip.
From the Midwest to the Mojave, the expedition begins the morning of May 9 at Navy Pier, the new unofficial beginning of Route 66 in Chicago. Over the following 10 days, the team will broadcast daily livestreams featuring morning kickoffs, roadside discoveries, and nighttime digital campfires while visiting historic landmarks and American Legion posts across the country.
Route Stops And Activations
Heartland Heritage: Stops include the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and a private tour of the Route 66 Centennial Traveling Exhibit in Missouri.
Community Activations: The route includes a comedy show at American Legion Post 73 in Oklahoma City and a joint activation with Eagle Ops at Longshot Ranch in Tulsa.
Iconic Americana: The journey includes spray-painting Cadillac Ranch in Texas, visiting the Petrified Forest in Arizona, and a tribute stop at “Standin’ on the Corner” in Winslow.
Grand Finale at LA Fleet Week: The road trip officially concludes on May 18 as the convoy crosses the Mojave Desert and arrives at the Route 66 End of the Trail sign at Santa Monica Pier. After the final stop, the team will move its content stage to LA Fleet Week, centered around the Battleship USS Iowa, for Fleet Week Expo Weekend.
This charity content series is made possible through partnerships and support from organizations committed to the Veteran community, including the USO, ACP, Always Give Back, General Dynamics, Activision, Blizzard, Red Bull, and Eagle Ops.
Fans and supporters are encouraged to follow the journey, tune in to the daily digital campfires, and support the Gaming For Good mental wellness mission.
