A steady stream of apparent Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay is continuing to surface online just days before Rockstar Games is scheduled to show more of the game.
The latest clips appeared Aug. 25 and seem to show protagonist Jason Duval in a crowded nightclub, riding a bicycle along a busy beach, and visiting an in-game store. Earlier footage showed driving, flying, basketball, weapons, and other activities that have not appeared in Rockstar’s official trailers. Rockstar has not confirmed that the videos are authentic.
The leaks began circulating Aug. 18 under the name CyberLeek and have continued despite copyright removals and legal action from Take-Two Interactive.
Most of the leaked material has focused on Jason and different parts of Vice City rather than major story details. Recent beach footage drew attention for the number of non-player characters visible around him, similar to the crowded beach scenes Rockstar has already shown in official trailers.
CyberLeek has said the releases are partly aimed at protesting gaming industry practices such as digital preorders and downloadable content. The name has also been tied to the promotion of a cryptocurrency.
Take-Two has gone to federal court in an effort to identify those responsible. The company sought permission to subpoena Microsoft and Discord for account information believed to be connected to the leaks. Similar requests have reportedly involved Google and X.
CyberLeek’s main website and Telegram channel reportedly went offline, but that has not stopped additional clips from spreading through other accounts and platforms.
The timing comes just before Rockstar’s planned Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look presentation on Aug. 27. The presentation is expected to be the most detailed official look at the game so far, following two trailers, screenshots, and character information released by Rockstar.
GTA VI remains scheduled for Nov. 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This is not the first major leak involving the game. In 2022, dozens of early-development videos appeared online after an unauthorized third party accessed confidential information from Rockstar’s systems.
The footage circulating now appears much further along than the material seen in 2022, but development footage can still include unfinished animations, temporary assets, bugs, or features that may change before release.
Players should also be careful with files claiming to contain playable versions of the game. A 113GB download advertised as a leaked GTA VI build was reported to be fake and contained malicious code, according to Tom’s Hardware.
Rockstar has not released a playable public version of GTA VI, so any download claiming to contain the unreleased game should be treated with caution.
Rockstar’s Aug. 27 presentation will now arrive with much of the attention already focused on footage the company did not intend to release. The leaks have not changed the launch date, and GTA VI is still set to arrive Nov. 19.
